#7 Pemberton--The Giant Tree

Xt and I struggled till a day before we have to depart, and we both agreed to make this destination in our itineraries. On one side, this place is an attraction which is enlisted in most of the backpackers' favourite list. Some said it is an unforgettable experience when you got yourself on the tree top. On the other side, it is 3-hours plus driving distance from Perth in which is quite far lahh.

There are three magnificent giant trees here in the 'Giant Karri Forest'.Namely Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree (ranked the tallest), Gloucester Tree (ranked the second) and the Diamond Tree. They charged $11 to acess Gloucester National Park.

But the way, I already told xt that I'm probably not going to climb till the end long before we depart.

I guess, it would be really nice and exhilarating to see trees top breaching through the blue skies. =( But I'm so sorry to say 'I have no guts'.

Once you climb up, you got no U-turn because there is only one way up and down. You can only get down when there is no one else is climbing up.

How on earth to get on to a  20-stories high rise tree? There are rungs imbedded on the trunks from ground level up to the top. So, step on the spikes and climb.

We were there after the 4-hours drive. The rain never stop along the way, sometimes downpours, sometimes drizzles.I was praying hard that it would be no rain in Pemberton.

We finally made our way to the Diamond Tree. Rain stopped but the spikes were all wet and slippery. Xt and I decided just to climb several steps for photo sake. Not gonna climb up the 52 metres bark as it might be very dangerous if we missed our step. Plus, no one else was there, just two of us. We couldn't even ask for help if there were any emergency.

Climbing risk #1, in wet weather, pegs can be slippery.

Pretend that I'm going to conquer the tree huhh

Come on follow me!

Xt's turn.

Dadaa, Jack and the beanstalk!

No one was there, so we owned the tree! Hiak hiakkk

Ahh, too bad it's wet. Otherwise, I can see Xt climbed up the tree like Jack!

Goodbye Diamond Tree.

After the tree, we were going to Augusta to meet our host Sara and Bruce. And along the countryside, there were much to offer. The greenery, flat green field with cows or sheep grazing on it total amazed us! In fact, we never seen such a flat greenish piece in Malaysia, because we got a dozen of mountains here.

We spotted some kangaroos along the roadside. Two dead. One alive. In Australia, signboards to remind driver of kangaroo's hot spot are very common. And it was quite common to bang down the kangaroo and got yourself into accident if you were not careful enough.

So we were being very cautious to avoid any unwanted accident.
p/s: Avoid driving at night. Xt said light would attract kangaroos.

Everytime we passed by a nice field, xt actually slowed down the car so that I can capture some photographs. Then, we decided to stop by the road for a better view!

And here goes the photoshoot session :P

p/s: Can't believe we did this.
