adding new maps to your GPS

i'm here to blog about how to add new maps/update your GPS device to help those who don't know what to do with your device and as a source for myself too in case i forget. It's specifically for Garmin as i do not know whether this method works on other brand of GPS.Anyway, you can have a try :)

you can find a lot of different version maps of different country in http://www.malfreemaps.com/
and i downloaded the map i needed which included singapore, malaysia, brunei and thailand. Awesome one. 【click 】.

downloaded it and you're ready to install the new maps into your device. Connect your GPS to your pc using usb cable. In case your gps do not have enough space for your maps, you can go to folder 'VOICE' and delete some of the speaking languages which do not benefit you.

Before all,you have to backup the maps you originally have.Find a file named gmapprom / gmapsupp (or any other name which i do not know) in folder GARMIN /MAPS. Copy it and save it at a save place.
p/s:do not delete the backup, in case anything happen, you can refer back to it.

Next, install the maps you have downloaded into your device and you'll find it successfully installed after going through several step.Exclude colored polygons when you generate MFM-Garmin map to prevent laggy.(this step is done when it is successfully installed)
* Click "yes" when prompted "Do you wish to create a gmapsupp.img?" at the end of the installation process.

And now you are able to find a folder called 'Malfreemaps'. Find gmapsupp file and you may drag it to the folder.

Now you have two gmapsupp file in different locations. Deleted the one you've backup which is located in GARMIN/MAPS folder and move the one you newly installed from Malfreemap to GARMIN/MAPS.

you're now done with it. Unplug your GPS from your pc and open it. Go to Tools-->Settings-->myMaps,and then choose the maps 'Mfm Poi 120130' and other relevant maps. Test it. =P

Goodluck :)
